July Time Trial

Post by TimT » Tue Jun 21, 2011 12:47 pm

July 10 8 am CITY PARK!!!!
Ok here's the deal. There is an abadoned golf course at City Park between Filmore and Harrison ave. The golf cart path is still there. It is broken concrete. Just Google "New Orleans City Park" and click on the map that comes up. You can clearly see the golf cart path. plenty of passing room , very flat and you can see long stretches of the course in places. I figure 6-7 mile course. Brian and i will be scouting out a route on Thursday after work. So join us if you want. Park on the south side of Filmore across from the driving range.
Rule change must ride a mountaun bike no road bikes allowed.

I like your thinking, Tim. That's an awesome idea. When I lived in Mid City I used to string together loops along the little train track and levee to do some urban mountain biking. Lots of potential out there, especially with the old golf course.

I think it is an awesome idea. Do you think there will be any access issues, permits etc.

Nope. I'm trying to find some one in the city gov't who can answer any permit issues but it is free open public land and as long as we promote it as a group ride........I saw a few people running/walking/ riding on it and there is plenty of room to pass. I'll be riding it again on Thursday at around 5pm. Doing some more scouting on a final route maybe some marking. Come and ride with us.

Got a course layed out.Looks like 6.6miles. I'm going to head out there again with Danish Kris and make a GPS map. We will start and stop at the pavilion. Yesterday we rode by the park office but it was closed.Still trying to get a hold of some one I'll try calling again today.

Go right ahead and run a road bike. The cracks in the concrete have big wads of grass growing between them. very smooth surface for a 22mm tire. :D
Seriously every one needs to go out there and ride around some.

Thanks again to Tim and all the guy that helped him. I think City Park was a novel idea and that everyone had fun.
