Comite Trail Work Hours

Post by lucky1 » Sun Jan 17, 2010 2:03 pm

In order to better track member trail work hours please provide us with the following:
Name / date(s) / approximate time
(example: Johnny Nebraska / Jan. 12 / 2.5 hrs.)

In turn we will submit hours to BREC for their records making the club eligible for tax credits up to $500 and perhaps more. In addition make sure that you insist on recording your time directly to BREC (Burns) at any organized trail days (that day).

BRAMBA is considering potential prizes / rewards for top contributors. ( So make sure you update bramba also)

This is an all-hands effort to make sure your hard work & efforts do not go unrecognized!!!!

Thank you!

Let me clarify slightly, as I want to make sure the benefits to the club and to the individual volunteering are clearly understood.

Any individual who is a registered volunteer with BREC and contributes 30 or more hours of volunteer work to BREC is eligible for an income deduction on their state income taxes. It is a $500 deduction from your taxable income. This only applies to your state taxes. But you need to be a registered volunteer and you need to report your volunteer hours. If you have questions about how to become a registered volunteer and how to submit your hours to BREC, you can contact me at volunteer@brec.org.

The tax incentive does not apply to the club as a whole, but there are other benefits to your tracking your volunteer contribution to the trails as a club including an ability to use it in grant applications.

I guess volunteering for the race counts the same as volunteer trailwork? I filled out a sheet from Kristin while there, but this will help me keep up with my total.

Just as a reminder...volunteers hours for BREC are only for work done on the trails on BREC property. Work done on the connection trail cannot be counted.

If you would like to register as volunteer with BREC for 2010 you can do so at http://www.brec.org/volunteers and click where it says "CLICK HERE". It will take you to our online system where you can create your profile, sign up for volunteer opportunities, and log your hours. Once you have created your profile, you will want to sign up for the General Trail Maintenance volunteer opportunity, which will allow you to log your hours for general trail maintenance. When there are BREC work days, we will have these posted as separate opportunities to be able to have a head count and get some folks who are not BRAMBA members involved as well. This system should make things a lot easier for both BRAMBA and BREC to collect hours. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, feel free to send me an email volunteer@brec.org or give me a call.

Thanks for all you do out there! We really appreciate it.

David Mccarstle did 3 hrs of work on Comite before the race Sat. he filled in a lot of places that were getting bad, like that eroded out part just before the roller coaster, a hill just after the point that was really rooty, and he chopped down a privet bush that had caused his friend to break her arm last week. I just thot he should get some credit for this work and he's not gonna say anything. i also wasn't aware that Cline consistently did so much work out there. I appreciate all you do, guys. Georgia

I rode Mon. and Tues. morning and the trail was perfect. Good job on the Cypress too. Any ideas on the Banana spiders, had to dive three times on those days, I hate spiders
Never met a MTB'er I didn't like.

Is there a planned, sanctioned work day planned or already set? If so, date?

Nothing planned for this month. Everything is in pretty good shape. Hooper is a little bushy (feel free to go trim it) and has a couple nasty ruts, but that can wait until its cold. Just enjoy riding in the sweet cool temps for now!

Thanks to Mark for the help at Comite today. Filled in a lot of holes and fixed the two tree crossings. Merry Christmas
