April BREC/BRAMBA workday

Postby ray m » Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:19 pm

Hello,

Time for our April BRAMBA/BREC workday, meet Sunday April 15th 9:00AM Comite parking lot. We will be doing prep work for the upcoming Kerry Stamey Day activities on April 28th.

I have not ridden the trails in weeks so am not really aware of the trail conditions, so if you know of any particular work that needs to be done at Comite or Hooper, please post it.

With all the rain, I’m sure there will be some face sappers to cut and possibly some holes to drain.

We have gloves, shovels, and rakes, if you have loppers or clippers bring them, bug spray, water, and snacks.

There will be a ride after.

Thanks,

Ray

There's a spot that needs to be cleared before table top and at least one other one. Drawing a blank on where it was right now. Lots of face slappers out there. Some with stinging caterpillars on them.

Ray,

To add to what Jeff said, a chainsaw will be needed in several places for the heaver limbs and a lot of limestone will be needed for the new "hog wallers".

HOG WALLERS, where are they? Not sure if we will have the equipment to haul limestone. Might just have to waller for a while. It keeps the mosquitos off.

My buddy is planning on coming out there and can bring a four wheeler if needed, and is definitely bringing a chainsaw. Just post up here if the 4-wheeler is needed.

Thanks for the offer Adam, Burns will have to OK the use of the four wheeler.

Thanks to the Extreme Sports Dept. managers, Jason Hoggatt and Brandon Smith for digging into the budget and getting a new dump trailer to help with gravel work. The old one was getting so bad that we had to work on it almost every workday. We are set to go at 9 AM on Sunday at Comite.

Hardy Har Wayne, you kind of panicked me with your terminology  .

I finally got out and did a few laps this morning, the trail appears to have done an incredible amount of drying in the last few days  :) , only a few damp spots left.

Looks like the most pressing thing right now to keeping the trail ready and enjoyable to ride is trimming the underbrush back some, It is not real bad right now, but unattended it will be soon.

Fellow riders report Hopper is in good shape also, but the Hard Tail Bridges could use some work.

So the plan for tomorrow looks like

1. trimming face slappers, and mark damp spots for future gravel
2. depending on turnout, have a couple of people go work on the hard tail bridges.

Remember, tomorrow is the April BREC/BRAMBA workday we will meet at the Comite parking lot tomorrow morning around 9ish and finalize our plans there.

Bring your bike for a ride after.

Thanks,

Ray

Thanks to all who came out today, we had a total of ten volunteers and got quite a bit of work done, still a few spots that are getting a little over grown, but overall the entire KS trail system is in good shape, Thanks again for everyones help. Go ride.

Thanks to Burns for taking a day of vacation from his primary job last week to begin hauling limestone to the spots which become mud holes when the trail is ridden during wet conditions. Unfortunately, if the trail is going to be ridden soon after rains, then it needs to be better armored to withstand damage.

Thanks to Ray Mitchell, Bob Walker, Robin Diamond, Wayne Cox, Paul Kelly, Darren Cavin & son, Derek Guidry, Kim , Ben and Thomas for coming out Sunday to work on the trail. It was a pretty day and I know everyone would rather have been riding. So a double thank you for the sacrifice you made to improve our trail. The next workday is Saturday May 19th at 9AM, site TBD.
