Hooper Road Trail [trail map]
In 1992, BREC allowed BRAMBA to build trails for mountain bike use on a large parcel of
undeveloped land in North Baton Rouge. In 1996, a second site, Comite Park, was designated for mountain bike use
by BREC.
While BREC has supplied the land and some of the materials, other materials have been donated.
All of the labor for trail design, trail building, and trail maintenance is currently volunteered by BRAMBA
members.
As a result, BRAMBA and other volunteers have created over 16 miles of single-track, making this one
of the best riding areas near Baton Rouge. Riders come from as far as New Orleans for weekday and weekend rides
year round.
Directions:
Take I-110 to the Baton Rouge Airport Exit onto Harding Blvd. north toward Plank Rd. Harding Blvd. will become Hooper Rd. at the first red light. Stay on Hooper Rd. until you get to the next red light, turn left onto Cedar Glen in the Sharon Hills neighborhood. When Cedar Glen dead ends, turn right onto Guynell. Continue on Guynell for two blocks and you will be at the entrance of Hooper Road Park. The trailhead is on the left as you enter the parking lot.
Comite Park Trail [trail map]
Comite Park is within riding distance of Hooper Road Park. BREC and BRAMBA
have teamed together on a TEA21/RTP grant to pay for many improvements
at the Comite Trailhead, including a new parking lot, bike wash, and pavilion.
Look for the green gate just past Comite Estates subdivision. Comite Park
boasts miles of sweet singletrack trails with varying terrain suitable
for beginners and experts alike.
Thanks to the hard work of many, the two parks have been connected with a singletrack Connection Trail to eliminate the road ride. The new connection trail allows for rides as long as 20 miles!
